What is the Bio-Diversity Clearing House Mechanism (CHM)?

Malaysia's Clearing House Mechanism (CHM) for Biological Diversity will facilitate information exchange and promote international technical and scientific cooperation. It will function as a mechanism for the efficient transfer and sharing of information on biological diversity, in Malaysia, as well internationally. Finally, it will serve as a one-stop portal for the sharing of relevant information on the status of conservation and biodiversity management using the World Wide Web.
Who is developing it?

The
Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has been directed by the
Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) to develop the Bio-diversity CHM for Malaysia. In doing so, FRIM will be working in close collaboration with most the Malaysian government and non government organisations, all of which play a role in the conservation and sustainable management of Malaysia's biological diversity.
What information will it contain?

As a system of information exchange, the Bio-diversity CHM will combine and collate information from a variety of different sources, providing easy access to policy position documents, databases and a wide variety of web-based information types as provided by the various national and international stakeholders.
How will the service develop in the future?

At present, more than 70 web pages of information are accessible through this portal. We plan to continually add and refine the information and databases accessible through this portal. We also aim to improve the functionality and user-friendliness of the portal through the use of search tools and a newsletter.
